CLOSE PROFESSIONAL RELATION

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Armed Forces have been maintaining a very friendly and professional relation. The relation has been sustained and consolidated with periodic exchange of bilateral visits and multilateral visits including at the level of Commanders and Chiefs. Bangladesh has been providing military training assistance to Sri Lanka Armed Forces since 1994. Many senior officers of Sri Lanka Armed Forces including Field Marshal Fonesaka attended staff courses in Bangladesh. In the recent past, number of training course provided to Sri Lanka Armed Forces personnel has increased substantially. Sri Lanka Armed Forces also offers training courses for Bangladesh Defence personnel. Bangladesh naval ships come to Colombo on a regular basis. The following information is in more detail:

Visit by Various Delegations:        Every year a good number of Armed Forces Officers from Bangladesh visit Sri Lanka to attend Defence Seminar, Galle Dialogue, International Exercises, Workshops and to conduct special training packages. Besides, Sri Lanka also receives study visits from Bangladesh institutions like National Defence College.

Visit by Bangladesh Naval Ships:   Ships from Bangladesh Navy frequently call Colombo Port for goodwill visits, training, transiting and so on. Following are the recent port calls:

  1. BNS OSMAN and BNS MADHUMATI in July 2014;
  2. BNS ALI HAIDER and NIRMUL in May 2014;
  3. BNS SAMUDRA JOY 28 April-01 May 2015;
  4. BNS ABU BAKR 19-23 October 2015;
