Connectivity

There is much scope to enhance cooperation in connectivity between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, both sea and air, for mutual benefit. Mihin Lanka Airlines operates direct flights en route Dhaka-Colombo.

Considering the need of hour, a decision to form a JWG (Joint Working Group) on Shipping was taken in the second FOC held in Colombo in April 2013.

The first meeting of the JWG on Shipping was hosted by Bangladesh from  30 April to 01 May 2014. A draft Agreement on Coastal Shipping between the ports of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and a SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) are under consideration. The possibility of transshipment of Bangladesh cargo at Sri Lankan ports and joint venture in shipping lines are also under consideration. A meeting of Joint Study Group on Shipping took place in Colombo on 05-06 November 2015.
